23, February 2011 - Prix De La Foundation 2011 Award

CRANS MONTANA FORUM awards the Prix de la Fondation to George A. Forrest

On Friday, January 18th, the International Organization CRANS MONTANA FORUM awarded the Prix de la Fondation to Mr. George A. Forrest, President of GROUPE FORREST INTERNATIONAL of which Entreprise Generale Malta Forrest is a member.

This is recognition for commitment and initiative to promote transparency as well as improving the business climate in Africa.

Mr. George A. Forrest has warmly thanked the CRANS MONTANA FORUM for this extraordinary act of encouragement and has re-affirmed his intention to continue to strengthen his initiatives.

Mr. George A. Forrest has also reiterated the five proposals that he had addressed to the European Union, as well as to the African and European governments, at the occasion of the European-African Summit in Tripoli, in November 2010.

In Tripoli, he requested Europe and Africa to strengthen the legal security of private investments, to promote good governance and transparency, to set up a binding ethical code for private investments in Africa and finally, to take the necessary measures in order to disclose the beneficiaries of offshore companies operating in countries facing weak governance or conflicts. Two proposals, namely those related to transparency and legal security, have been included in the final list of recommendations of the European-African Summit.

Mr. George A. Forrest has also insisted on the fact that sustainable socio-economic development mainly depends on the improvement of the business climate. It is necessary, if not urgent, to set up the favourable conditions that are likely to attract sound and serious investments as well as to support the emergence of a dynamic African middle class,
unfortunately the most vulnerable today.

Mr. George A. Forrest will keep on interceding with international institutions and governments, as well as private companies, to implement strong resolutions in order to improve the business climate in Africa.

Other recipients of the award were:-

Mr. Raila A. Odinga, Prime Minister of Kenya. Mr. Hamid Temmar, Minister of Prospective and Statistics, People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and Mr. Mehmet Zafer Caglayan Minister for Foreign Trade of Turkey.
